General Instructions for all “In the News†Assignments
For each “In the News†assignment, students will be assigned an article to review followed by some instructions regarding how to specifically analyze the article. Each submission should be a minimum (i.e. at least) of 300 (but no more than 700) words long, and it must contain at least two references to substantiate the responses provided. One of the references must be the course textbook. When inserting references and their corresponding citations, students should follow APA format. Here is a link to a sample APA paper, but note the cover page is not required for this assignment: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/apa_sample_paper.html (Links to an external site.)
All submissions must be in MS Word format, and they must be 12 font Times New Roman (double spaced). No .PDF or .pages format will be accepted.
*Note all work will be compared to assure no “cheating†has occurred. The comparison is not limited to this particular course, but submissions from past semesters and other courses too. Any submissions that is not original will be awarded zero credit, and FIU’s leadership will be notified of the incident.
“In the News Assignment #1â€
All students should review this article:
Students with a last name beginning with a letter A-M in the alphabet follow this set of instructions.
- Select one merger (1-8) to focus on for this assignment.
- Given the merger is complete, create the “Perspectives†portion of a “Balanced Score Card†for this newly merged organization. The mandatory subsections to include are customer, internal business process, and learning/growing. To get the full view, students are encouraged to include the financial subsection, but this is not required. The Perspective Balanced Scorecard details are covered on pages 77 through 84. If the student does not know what a Balanced Score Card is, they should review page 76.
- Be sure not to overcomplicate this submission. Submit a document that contains an intro (covering the merger in focus) and each required perspective is impacted by the merger: customer, internal business process, and learning/growing. Then, include a short closing. Use sub-headers to organize the writing.
- READ the recommended section from chapter 4 of the course textbook.
